About the Author
Susan M. Turley, MA (Educ), BSN, RN, RHIT, CMT, is a full-time author and editor. In the recent past, she was an adjunct professor in the School of Health, Wellness, and Physical Education at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland, where she taught courses in medical terminology and pharmacology. She was instrumental in gaining initial accreditation for the college’s medical assisting program. As a healthcare professional, Susan has worked in a variety of healthcare settings: acute care/ICU, long-term care, physicians’ offices, and managed care. She has held positions as an intensive care nurse, plasmapheresis nurse, infection control officer, physician office auditor, medical transcriptionist, medical writer/editor for physician publications, director of education, and director of quality management and corporate compliance for an HMO. Susan is also the author of Understanding Pharmacology for Health Professionals, 5th edition (Pearson, 2016), and more than 40 articles published in medical transcription and health information management journals. She is a codeveloper of The SUM Program for Medical Transcription Training and reference books for Health Professions Institute. With physician coauthors, she has written three nationally funded grants, two chapters in physicians’ anesthesiology and ENT textbooks, and numerous abstracts and articles published in nationally known medical journals. She has been a guest speaker at national seminars for accreditation of utilization management programs, medical transcription teacher training, and health information management certification exam review. Susan holds a Master of Arts degree in adult education from Norwich University in Vermont, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the Pennsylvania State University, and has state licensure as an RN. She is a member and has national certification in medical transcription from the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), and is a member and has national certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). About the Illustrator The illustrations throughout this book were carefully coordinated through a close collaborative effort between the author and artist. I rented this book for a class I took and the rental price was way better than the buying price (at campus or online). This book arrived within a few days, just as expected which helped me prepare for the start of the semester and the book was in very good condition for a used book. I also enjoyed the layout of the book. It is broken up into different body systems/organs and there is a brief overview of anatomy and physiology of each body system/organ associated with each chapter followed by some exercises then a section of the medical words and definitions broken down by suffix, prefix, and combining form. There are also more exercises at the very end of the chapter and real photos of some of the diseases. Made learning the material way easier.
I bought this for a medical terminology class and it's great. There are exercises that really put the information into your head. I would recommend this also for anyone that wants a basic knowledge of common terms used in healthcare.
This textbook is extremely useful. The textbook literally helped me pass my medical terminology course with a 98% and I was really close to a perfect score! The textbook has prefixes, suffixes, and Latin roots that was frequently used in my medical terminology class. It had a lot of helpful diagrams of different parts of the body. It helped me visually examine the different body systems and its components!
Great book. Even if you didn't have to use it for a course, if you are interested in anatomy and physiology, it is well-written and entertaining. Would highly recommend.

Easy to use textbook
Arrived REALLY fast and ahead of schedule. Was in great condition. Ended up not needing the book, but it looked well done and had very clear and sometimes graphic photos.
